At Churchfield, we believe that the Arts are paramount to children’s holistic development, and provide a range of opportunities for children to shine.
We offer a robust programme of Arts opportunities, from both curriculum based to our wider-experiences offer, covering all aspects of the Arts. Where possible, we work with a range of external services to provide even more expertise for our children. We’re also working hard to achieve the Arts Mark awards!
Music Lessons
As part of wider opportunities, all of our Y4 children have music lessons each week, along with a number of children across school having 1:1 or group tuition through Barnsley Music Services.
Performances
We hold a number of performances each year, from Xmas concerts to our annual end of year production. In 2022-23 this was The Lion King, and in 2023-24 it’ll be Oliver! Children from all year groups take part.
Showcase
Every year we also hold our ‘Churchfield Showcase’, our very own variety performance with a range of talents on show! We also take part in ‘Waterton’s Got Talent’ each year.
Assembly
Every day in assembly we listen to specific music, as part of our wider music plan, all designed to broaden children’s music horizons!
Choir
Our renowned choir is growing every year! The choir meets every week, attends Young Voices each year, as well as helping in the community, like performing at care homes each Christmas.
Art Gallery
Every year we participate in the Barnsley Art Gallery, where our children’s work is displayed for the entire town to see! We also hold our own galleries and events in school.
Visits and Visitors
We run a number of visits each year, such as pantomime visits, as well as having performances come into school!

After-School Clubs
We run a number of arts-based after-school clubs, from keyboards, to drama to dance!
